MONKTON, Vt. (WCAX) – As warmer weather ramps up and more people explore the Green Mountain State, one group is trying to empower women to take their safety into their own hands.
The Vermont Outdoor Guide Association is hosting classes to teach adventurers survival skills for two weeks in Monkton.
Wilderness survival instructor Jessie Krebs will teach women basic outdoor survival skills including what to do if you get lost in the woods, how to get found, night navigation tips, and more. Krebs says she wants these classes to make women feel strong and confident as they venture outdoors.
“Lets women learn in their own time and at their own pace, without feeling like they are pressured or they have to be rescued somehow. Empowerment is another really big part of the program. I want women to leave feeling like they are more confident, they’re more capable, they know how to handle things if something goes wrong,” said Krebs.
The course runs the weekends of June 16th and June 21st, with day classes and overnight adventures.
